How Maple Syrup Products Are Made

Made with a lot of work! Here is a brief outline.
-
Putting
up literally miles of tubing and drilling the trees. (tapping) About 4500.
-
Cleaning before the sap enters the tanks, RO and evaporator.
-
Gathering
the water and pumping into the holding tanks.
-
Reverse osmosis to lower the water content and raise the sugar content – reduces boiling
time.
-
Boiling the sap to syrup stage. Filtering the sap to remove any impurities and enhance clarity.
-
Pumping into barrels for later
jugging into smaller containers. (more work!)
-
Cleaning utensils, tanks, RO and evaporator after every batch of syrup has been made.
-
And
if you want syrup products like cream, candy, and sugar it takes even more work to get the syrup to these various stages!
-
Like the
farmer… you have to love what you do.
